We have had another successful year. It began by responding to two of our members requests; these were to make heart shaped breast cushions and a quilt to be raffled for Different Strokes.
The Heart Breast Cushions were in response to a previous charity donation. The Breast Care Unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn had previously asked if we could make these cushions for their clients, which we did. They had nearly run out of supplies when they asked us again, as this charity is very close to all our hearts we responded by getting together at one of our normal meetings and successfully made 160 heart cushions. The cushions are given to women who have undergone surgery for usually total mastectomy; this allows the arm to be held away from the operation site. The cushions were presented to members of the Breast Care Team on May 9th 2011.
Different Strokes is a charity which supports younger stroke survivors. This charity was established in 1996 by a small group of young stroke survivors who recognized the need for more support and relevant information for survivors up to the age of 65.
The quilt was made by most of our members in the form of a sampler quilt. It was shown at our annual exhibition in July, held in St. Nicholas Chapel, and is being raffled in January 2012 at our first meeting of the New Year. Tickets are available for purchase through Samphire Quilters and members of Different Strokes.
The raffle was kindly sponsored by Steve Broomhill of Sewing Machine World, Kings Lynn. The proceeds will help towards hydrotherapy treatments amongst other things.
